Unlike the older technology with fixed focus and direction using network wire (POE), this camera has proven to be a successful experiment so far. It was by far the easiest to install out of the 12-15 cameras I’ve set up here, and connecting it to the network was a breeze. The video quality is the best among all my cameras, and it can pan and tilt much faster than the others. A great feature is the two lenses; you can easily switch between zoom and regular view in the app. The app also makes it simple to adjust settings to your liking.

The motion detection utilizes AI, allowing you to choose which type of motion to monitor: Human, Vehicle, or “all other motions.” Both Human and Vehicle settings work exceptionally well, though I haven’t tested “all other motions.” You can activate AI tracking, enabling the camera to follow moving Humans or Vehicles. I haven’t experienced any false alarms with the sensitivity set to 4 out of 7, and notifications are almost instantaneous. You can configure “preset conditions” for each lens, or the camera will return to the center position between viewings. Video and audio can be adjusted according to your preferences, as well as notification settings (text or text with thumbnail). I believe cloud storage is required for thumbnail alerts, but the camera comes with 7.1 GB of local storage where alerts can be easily accessed via the app. There’s also a “record” button in the app to capture live events in local storage.

To view a live feed on a computer, you need to log in to the website, but it’s necessary to enable web portal access in the app first. Cloud storage for accessing alerts online is available for about $3 per month or $30 per year, and I’m considering this option for a larger view of alerts on my computer, although it may not be necessary given the app’s speed and convenience. The only issue I encountered was that in zoom mode, the picture was slightly low. I resolved this by tilting the mount upward about 1/8 inch and setting the preferred view in zoom. One potential concern is that my location doesn’t receive direct sunlight, so I might need to move the solar charger about 15 feet, but it hasn’t been a problem yet, especially with the recent lack of sunlight. Overall, it’s a good camera that is easy to set up and user-friendly.

I have been using eufy cameras for around 5 years, starting with their initial security camera launched on Kickstarter. In my view, they produce the best consumer security cameras available. With the built-in storage in each camera and the HomeBase to connect them to, there’s no need to pay a monthly subscription for saving your video footage. I have multiple eufy security cameras installed throughout my home, all linked to my HomeBase 3. While the camera can function independently with its 8GB of built-in storage, I recommend the HomeBase if you have multiple eufy cameras or wish to store more than a few days’ worth of videos, as it offers greater storage capacity that can also be expanded later. The features that truly distinguish this S340 camera from my other eufy cameras are its dual lenses and its ability to move, similar to my indoor cameras. The pan and tilt functionality enables the camera to track motion, such as someone approaching your home, while the zoom lens provides a closer view of whatever movement is detected. These two features (dual lenses + motion tracking) make this camera the best security camera I have encountered, definitely the finest consumer model I have used. Additionally, it comes with a solar panel to keep the battery charged, which is typically an optional feature for most other eufy cameras. I placed this camera on my front porch to monitor delivery drivers, salespeople, and anyone else who approaches my home. However, I may get another one for the back of my house, as my current camera’s fixed position limits its coverage. Whether you’re looking to buy your first security camera or already own several like I do, the quality and features of this camera make it a must-have in my opinion. I’m really impressed with it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to enhance their home security.

Security System upgrade. We added this camera to our existing Eufy system to prevent back door intruders at our vacation rental! Definitely easy to install and add!
