    Battery-Powered Video Doorbell E340

Product Review: Battery-Powered Video Doorbell E340

    Introduction

The Battery-Powered Video Doorbell E340 is a modern marvel in home security, designed to enhance user convenience with its dual-camera system and impressive features. This doorbell not only provides peace of mind by allowing homeowners to see who is at their door, but it also captures vital details with exceptional clarity, making it a worthwhile addition to any smart home setup.

    Key Features

    • Dual Cameras: The E340 features a front-facing camera for facial recognition and a downward-facing camera to monitor packages or anyone approaching your doorstep.
    • 2K Full HD Clarity: Enjoy stunning visuals with 2K resolution, providing detailed imagery to ensure nothing goes unnoticed.
    • Color Night Vision: Equipped with a dual-light system, it boasts clear night vision up to 16 feet (5m), significantly reducing blur and enhancing visibility in low light.
    • Flexible Power Options: Choose between battery-powered or wired options. The battery can be quickly swapped, and the wired mode keeps the battery charged for uninterrupted service.
    • Chime Compatibility: Connects seamlessly with existing chimes or eufy HomeBase devices, as well as smart assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros:

    • Exceptional Video Quality: 2K resolution and dual cameras enhance security with a comprehensive view.
    • No Monthly Fees: Unlike many competitors, the E340 does not require a subscription for accessing features.
    • Easy Installation: Comes with all necessary mounting hardware, including a shim for angled installations.
    • Versatile Power Options: The ability to choose between wired and battery operation adds flexibility.

    Cons:

    • Initial Setup Complexity: Some users found navigating the app and setting up the chime functionality slightly challenging.
    • Size: The larger footprint compared to some competitors may require extra consideration during installation.
    • Battery Requirement for Wired Mode: Requires the battery to be installed even in wired mode, which may not be intuitive for all users.

    User Experience

Real-world usage of the Video Doorbell E340 has been largely positive. The initial setup is relatively straightforward for those familiar with smart devices. Users appreciate that the installation kit includes a 15-degree shim, making it easier to achieve the perfect view even if the doorbell isn’t centered.

Many reviews highlight the reliability of the system when paired with existing chimes, particularly in older homes. Once connected, the chime functionality must be enabled through the software setup, which some users noted was initially confusing but ultimately manageable.

Connectivity remains strong, with users reporting no issues with the app and notifications. The dual-camera design is frequently praised, especially the downward-facing camera that captures package deliveries or any activity right at the doorstep. The clarity of both daytime and nighttime footage has been a significant selling point, with many stating it’s superior to competitors like Ring, especially due to the added human detection settings that minimize unnecessary alerts.

    Final Thoughts

The Battery-Powered Video Doorbell E340 brings a host of features that make it a standout choice in the realm of smart home security. From its dual-camera system to the lack of a required subscription fee, it enhances both the user experience and home safety. While it may have a slight learning curve during setup, the overall performance, video quality, and flexibility in power options make it a worthy investment for anyone looking to bolster their home security without ongoing costs.

In conclusion, if you are in the market for a video doorbell that offers exceptional clarity, dual-camera capabilities, and the freedom from subscription fees, the E340 is highly recommended. It is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to enhance their home security without compromising on features or ease of use.

I have this camera hardwired and it also has a fully charged battery. I’m using it strictly with Wi-Fi and not connected to a home base. The video quality is bright and clear. The doorbell comes with many features, but my favorite is the dual camera, which allows me to see someone walking by and check if they leave a package. I would definitely recommend this doorbell.

I have been interested in the Eufy dual-cam doorbells for quite some time, particularly one that connects to the Homebase 3 and is wired. I’m pleased they finally released this model. The installation was straightforward; here are a few observations: The Eufy camera is larger than the Google Nest camera. I was able to use one of the existing holes but had to drill a new one for the new bracket. Considering the additional package camera and LED lights, I don’t mind the larger size. I initially thought that with the wired option, the battery wouldn’t be necessary, allowing more space for the wires. However, it seems the battery is required to complete the electrical connections. It may enhance the stability of the connection or enable longer video clips. Occasionally, I receive alerts indicating that the battery is fully charged, suggesting that the wired connections are recharging it. I could conceal the wires behind the unit with the battery in place, but I did not need to use any wire nuts.

When setting it up in the iOS app, you must choose between Wi-Fi or Homebase for the connection. You cannot switch to Homebase after the initial setup (at least at launch). The connection to the Homebase does not utilize your Wi-Fi, so having a strong connection to the Homebase is essential. Mine is located 30-40 feet away and goes through several walls, including a brick exterior, yet I maintain an excellent connection.

I don’t have functional indoor chimes. There are several options for indoor chimes (see included picture). I decided to use Alexa devices as the chimes. I had to enable an Eufy security skill on Alexa, then access the device settings to enable doorbell press notifications. Alexa offers several doorbell chimes, including festive holiday options, and you can enable multiple types.

Connecting to the Homebase adds extra AI features. I own several Eufy products, and while the Google Nest cameras generally excel in motion detection and facial AI, Eufy is making progress. The fact that they don’t upload to the cloud and use your data for product development makes it a bit more challenging compared to Google, which utilizes everything for its advantage. Eufy is running a program to submit videos to help enhance their AI features, so I expect improvements in the future.

Person and package notifications have been excellent so far. It’s reassuring to know when a package arrives and when it’s picked up. Our previous Google camera could only monitor a small area next to the door.

The best aspect of Eufy products is the absence of a monthly fee. Your data is stored locally on a SIM card or the Homebase. I plan to transition my other Google cameras to Eufy eventually, hoping they maintain the same business model without monthly charges. They do offer additional security features for a fee, but these are not necessary for the system to function.

This set comes with all the necessary mounting hardware, including a 15° horizontal shim that allows you to angle your doorbell to either side. This was ideal for us since our front door isn’t centered on the house, ensuring the camera faces the right direction. The system is compatible with an existing chime, which was crucial for us as our house is over a century old with a 24V chime, and we wanted to avoid using modern chime speakers. The two screws on the back connect to your existing wiring, so remember to turn off the electrical breaker for the doorbell before proceeding. After installing everything, don’t worry if the chime doesn’t work right away; you’ll need to activate the chime feature during the initial setup. It also draws power from this connection, so you won’t have to deal with frequent battery recharges. Setting up the system is quite straightforward if you’re familiar with smart device configurations. Once operational, our phones received “human” notifications linked to “event” recordings, and you can access a live feed at any time. You will need to create an account to use the app, and you can share access with family members so they can monitor the doorbell on their devices. I appreciate that the cloud feature is optional; by default, it uses internal storage and streams events in real time when you want to view them. Eufy also offers a monthly cloud service for additional footage storage in case the doorbell gets damaged. The standout feature is its user-friendliness for older users who aren’t tech-savvy. Just press the button, indicated by a blue ring light when someone approaches, and the bell rings! Many smart devices overlook simplicity, but this one gets it completely right.

Great choice for security. Far better than my old eufy doorbell, quality is better and features are impressive. Rechargeable removable battery is a great feature.

Although I haven’t had it for long, the installation was quick and took just a few minutes. The doorbell connected seamlessly to my original chime, producing a pleasant sound. The lights on the doorbell add a charming touch at night. The main challenge is figuring out the app once you’re finished; it’s not awful, but it does have a unique layout. On the bright side, it has never prompted me to “upgrade” or pushed any upselling, which is a great feature in itself.

The Eufy video doorbell has exceeded my expectations in every way. The installation was surprisingly easy, and the video quality is outstanding, providing a clear and wide view of what’s happening at my door. I love the motion detection feature, which adds an extra layer of security. Additionally, the seamless connectivity with my phone ensures a hassle-free user experience. Eufy has achieved the perfect balance between functionality and sleek design. It’s an essential addition to any modern home!

I got my Dufy video doorbell with dual cameras, and I’m really impressed with the video quality and the package feature. I did need to buy a 90-degree angle for mounting due to where I installed it, but there were no issues at all. I would happily do it again if necessary, and I’ve recommended it to others.

Without a doubt, this product is superior to Ring. I’ve had it installed for a couple of weeks, and I’m extremely pleased with its performance, clarity, and reporting features. The downward-facing camera is a standout feature. The night light that activates when someone approaches is an added bonus. Most importantly, its accuracy in reporting is impressive. I’ve paired it with a HomeBase 3, which provides the added benefit of human detection settings that outperform Ring. Now, I only receive alerts when it detects a person, not every time a car goes by. And the best part—NO MONTHLY FEES! Thank you, Eufy!

Great Doorbell Cam. Ordered to replace another doorbell camera I had that stopped working. This one is much better bigger than the other one but works well and has clear picture. Wireless and rechargeable.

Ineffective instructions. the camera on the bell doesn’t seem to work. I have emailed the company several times with no replies yet. I may have to return this item. I paid $23 a year for something, but it’s not clear for what.

The Shaft. Just out the box and looks like I’ll be returning this item very soon. The item is easy to install, but doesn’t give you the European option to connect to the doorbell wires or the euro option to insert a micro sd card. It’s like the inventor said let’s stick it to the Americans and charge them for everything. It’s priced for about $20 euros overseas, but here with the biggest retailer they give us crap once again.

Failed to connect to WiFi…outdated QR reader. I was disappointed and am about to request a return authorization. It was simple to install, priced right, I had the correct set up WiFi mgrz…but the camera told my phone the camera reader was outdated?? So we couldn’t pair he codes? On two different cell phones both connected to my WiFi. There was no manual or service to call.
